High school climbers from all over Colororado attended the Sport Climbing Center's SOCO High School Series Competition 4 on the evening of February 20. The climbing comp had top rope routes, lead routes, and boulder problems set for all skill levels. The overall winner from Fountain Valley School was Greg Headhey, and the only advanced female competitor went to Theresa Guinart from Legacy. Alex Leathorman of Castle View, and Pine Creek's Michelle Espenlaub took first in the intermediate category. At the top of the recreational category was Ben Calder from Fountain Valley, and Daren Bobkowski of Cherry Creek. Complete results follow.
ABS10 was hosted by the Spot in Boulder on Valentine's weekend. An awe inspired crowd watched as USA's strongest boulderers competed under pressure on extremely hard boulder problems. In the open category first place finishers were Colorado's Daniel Woods, and Alex Johnson.
Chauncey Cox went into the open finals in 9th spot, but surprised her competitors with an overall second place finish! She got heated up after a missed attempt on the finals first boulder problem. Chauncey was the only climber to flash problem 2, then she continued to flash problem 3! Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F-nVhJfTVY to be inspired and view her strength and fluidity! Chauncey also competed in the Youth A category, and took another second place finish. Right behind her, placing third, was Tyler Youngwerth. If you've seen Megan Mascarenas bouldering around at SCC then you shouldn't be surprised that she took a first place finish in the Youth C category! Congratulations Chauncey, Tyler, and Megan who are now on the US Team.
The biggest competition turnout in the history of the Sport Climbing Center was on November 8th at the 10th annual American Bouldering Series Competition. A big thanks to the some 140 climbers who came out to compete. A great job by SCC routesetters, Kyle McFarland, Nick Anderson, Rick Hester, and Austin Geiman for setting a wide range of varied problems with the new Climb It holds. And as always we couldn't have done it without the help of our wonderful sponsors, including Mountain Chalet, La Sportiva, North Face, Clif Bar, eGRIPS, Climbing Magazine, and Mountain Khakis. Congratulations to the overall winners Ian Dory and Chaunenia Cox! For complete results go to http://www.usaclimbing.net/rockcomps/comps/event_details.cfm?&id=1776 ,,
